Our Outcomes

Prevention Works for a Drug Free Fairfield County is very proud of its successes in reducing substance abuse among our communities youth.

• From 2004 to 2010 frequent (30 day use) tobacco use in high school seniors decreased from 24.1 to 22.5.
• Between 2004 and 2010, frequent (30 day use) Rx Drug use dropped from 9.4% to 8.5% to 7.2% to 5.7% an all-time
  low of Fairfield County twelfth graders.
• In 2004, 49% of Fairfield County high school seniors reported that Rx Drugs were easy to access compared to 2010,
  45.7% reported easy access.
• From 2010 to 2011 Compliance Checks revealed a 21% reduction in sales of alcohol and tobacco to minors throughout
  Fairfield County.

The coalition was reformed in 2003 by many sectors of the community that were concerned
about youth substance abuse issues.
Mission:
Our mission is to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth and, overtime, among
adults by establishing and strengthening collaboration by and between all sectors of the
community.
Our Members:
Parents, Youth, Government, Law Enforcement, Social Services, Faith Leaders, Medical
Professionals, School Personnel, Business, Service Organizations and Media.
Our Funding:
Our annual operating budget is $125,000 which comes from the Drug Free Communities
Support Program.

Baltimore Police Department and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Alcohol and Compliance Checks

In an effort to combat the sale of alcohol to underage persons, members of the Baltimore Police Department and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office teamed with the Prevention Works for a Drug Free Fairfield County Coalition and conducted compliance checks with Baltimore and Fairfield County area businesses on Tuesday February 12, 2013.

Underage confidential informants (CI’s) were used to purchase alcohol products. The CI’s appropriately represent their age and were purposely instructed not to alter their appearance to look older. During the latest operation, seven (7) out of fifteen (15) local businesses sold alcohol to undercover operatives. One (1) business sold tobacco to undercover operatives.
